The well-known “Garden Route” of South Africa is aptly named for its natural beauty, but is just as famous for its adventure and family friendly activities. This enchanting scenery of thick indigenous forests, beautiful lakes, meandering rivers, white sandy beaches, rocky clifftops, spectacular mountain passes, and the famous Knysna lagoon, creates a backdrop for a host of fun filled adventures.
In contrast to the greenery of the coastline and protected by a long mountain range, is the Little Karoo, a semi desert region of South Africa which is home to the town of Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, with a host of activities on offer, including the famous Cango Caves as well as tours to the ostrich farms and interactions with crocodile, cheetah and meerkats.
The Western Cape and Garden Route are linked by the longest wine route in the world – Route 62, rambling all the way from the winelands of the Western Cape, through the Breede River Valley into the Little Karoo ending near Oudtshoorn.
